Monopoli, guided walking tours with local guides

Known for its beautiful coastline, Monopoli, is located around 30km south of Bari. Our itinerary starts from the Old Port, with the walls of the '500 that rise mighty sea, along which we will arrive in the heart of the historical center, here we meet the symbol of the city, the Charles V Castle, (built in 1552) and we get closer to the marina where he arrived in 1117 the icon of the Virgin of the Madia, protector of the city. We'll go into the maze of narrow streets and alleys of the ancient medieval village, and remain speechless looking at the Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin. Monopoli Cathedral is the most important church and most visited of the city, also known because it houses the painting of the Madonna della Madia, protector of Monopoly. Legend has it that on the night between 15 and 16 December 1117, in the port of Monopoli landed a raft with the icon depicting the Virgin and Child.

This miracle is still strongly felt by Monopoli, in fact, every year there are two re-enactment of the landing of the raft, December 16 and August 14, the latter made especially in honor of the many tourists visiting the city.

The city of Monopoli is now even more famous as a set of many films. Seat of Sudestival, film festival of preview screenings national. Monopoli is a lovely town for a day trip, possibly in combination with Polignano a Mare.
